Hillsborough Literacy Council Class: Adults Staying Healthy
College Hill Branch Library, 2607 East Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard, Tampa
    FREE

The Hillsborough Literacy Council, in partnership with the Hillsborough County Health Department, will be offering a four-part Health Workshop with information and tips about staying healthy for adults with low literacy skills. The Literacy and Health Outcomes Report by the Agency for Health Care Research and Quality indicates that adults who have difficulty reading or communicating are more likely to get cancer, heart disease, and diabetes; they are hospitalized four times as much as those with higher literacy skills; and about $73 billion are spent on additional health care costs due to low health literacy skills.

Classes will be held at the College Hill Branch Library four Tuesdays beginning January 12. Students will learn how to stay healthy, read medicine labels, and fill out medical forms. For more information, call (813) 273-3650 or (813) 274-1981.
