Join Dr. Antoinette T. Jackson, Associate Professor in the Anthropology Department at the University of South Florida, as she discusses her book Speaking for the Enslaved, which highlights how public interest in First Lady Michelle Obama's roots and connections to Friendfield Plantation in South Carolina helps tell a bigger story about American history, heritage, and genealogical links. This talk will focus on plantation life in general and the role the First Lady's family history and connections to Friendfield Plantation plays in shaping ways of obtaining and using knowledge about the past today. A book signing will follow the program. Refreshments will be provided.
